Nau mai ki te pānui o Te Taurapa Tūhono. Welcome to this month's Export News - the final edition of 2017.

In this edition we're capping off the year by introducing a great new project from the New Zealand Story, taking a closer look at the people, partnerships and values of the Māori economy. This month we start at Onenui Station on the Mahia Peninsula, where Tawapata South Incorporation and Rocket Lab are looking to the stars together.

And we've got a tasty chaser from Golden Bay, as BioBalance tackle the Chinese market with their authentic, health-focused brand story.

NZTE's Better by Design CEO Summit is back for 2018 with a roster of great international and local speakers - and we've got a sneak preview from Summit speaker Tim Brown of Allbirds, talking to RNZ about the power of keeping things simple.

Elsewhere, learn how to get your products into Woolworths Australia and keep them there, get insights from NZTE's recent Driving Digital tech event in Canberra, explore the 100% Pure New Zealand Honey export journey - and get top tips for Australian market growth and helping the right way when disaster strikes in the Pacific.

"Just like my ancestors thousands of years ago looked at the oceans and thought what’s out there, we’re now looking to the stars and we’re saying the same thing.”
Culture and creativity: great Māori business stories

The New Zealand Story has taken a look inside over thirty prominent and innovative New Zealand businesses with uniquely Māori personalities - to gain an understanding of how they do business, what they do differently, and most interestingly, what has brought them success. Here's an introduction to the key themes and attributes they encountered, in the interviewees' own words.

While the Allbirds shoe label is still in its infancy, the company has proven that simplification can be a winning strategy in a very noisy marketplace. “Part of our success is we’ve said no to 99 percent of things - we’ve said no to a bigger range of shoes, no to too many colours ... no to partnerships and to different markets...and no to retail opportunities, so that we can focus on doing a few things really, really well,” says founder Tim Brown.
