Kia ora Tom

Welcome to this month's Export News.

The business awards season has well and truly begun. This issue features a range of awards programmes that allow you to have your success celebrated.

NZTE is once again proud to be running the New Zealand International Business Awards (NZIBA) with our strategic partner ANZ.

These annual awards recognise businesses that use their tenacity and courage to succeed on the world stage and inspire others to follow in their footsteps. 2019 is no different, as we shine a spotlight on those with the skills and passion for successfully selling this country’s products and services to the world.

We are also pleased to continue our partnership with Export New Zealand on their regional awards programme.

Other reading includes the potential of the sheep milk industry, more about the proposed research and development tax incentive, and introducing your business to China with New Zealand Story's Inside Stories Film.

Research & Development Tax Incentive

This year the Government is working to introduce a new tax incentive for businesses conducting research and development, the research and development tax incentive  (RDTI). The RDTI will give businesses a 15% tax credit if they spend a minimum of $50,000 per year on eligible R&D. Businesses spending less than $50,000 may still be eligible, so long as they are using an approved research provider to carry out their R&D. The Taxation (Research and Development Tax Credits) Bill is about to go before Parliament for its Second Reading. If passed into law, the RDTI will take effect from the beginning of a business’s 2019/2020 income year.

Updated | Privacy Bill

Parliament is currently considering the Privacy Bill. The bill repeals and replaces the Privacy Act 1993, as recommended by the Law Commission's 2011 review of the Act. Upcoming changes to NZ privacy law will mean businesses and organisations need to rethink how they collect, process and use the personal info of New Zealanders.
